Four Mile is a small Aboriginal community. It is located very close to the town of Kununurra. This community is found in the beautiful Kimberley region of Western Australia. It is also part of the area managed by the Shire of Wyndham-East Kimberley.

Understanding Native Title

The Four Mile community is located on land where the Miriuwung Gajerrong people have a special connection. This connection is called native title. It means their traditional rights and interests in the land have been officially recognised.

The Miriuwung Gajerrong people are also part of something important called the Ord Final Agreement. This agreement is a big plan for the future. It helps the Miriuwung Gajerrong people work together with the Western Australian Government. They also work with businesses and developers. The goal is to benefit everyone in the East Kimberley region.

How the Community is Governed

The Miriuwung Gajerrong people have an organisation called Yawoorroong Miriuwung Gajerrong Yirrgeb Noong Dawang Aboriginal Corporation. It is often called MG Corp for short. This group helps manage the land for all Miriuwung Gajerrong native title holders. They make sure the Ord Final Agreement is followed.

MG Corp was officially started in 2006. It helps the Miriuwung Gajerrong people with planning and managing their traditional lands. Only native title holders can be members of MG Corp.

The Four Mile community also has its own local group. It is called the Four Mile Aboriginal Corporation. This group was started in 1993. It helps manage the day-to-day life and needs of the community members.

Planning for the Future

The Four Mile community has a special plan for how the land will be used. It is called Four Mile Layout Plan No.1. This plan helps decide where houses, roads, and other important things will go.

The community members agreed on this plan in 2011. The Western Australian Planning Commission also approved it. This helps make sure the community grows in a good and organised way.
