Fox's Glacier Mints are a well-known type of hard candy sold in the United Kingdom. They are famous for their clear, icy look and refreshing mint flavor. These popular sweets have been enjoyed by people since 1918.

The Story of Fox's Mints

How Fox's Sweets Began

The person who started Fox's sweets was Walter Richard Fox. He first made candies with a partner, but their business ended in 1897. Walter Fox kept making sweets on his own. In 1914, his son Eric joined him in the business.

Creating Glacier Mints

The first Glacier Mints were made in 1918 by Eric Fox. At first, they had a different name: Acme Clear Mint Fingers. But in 1919, the name was changed to Glacier Mints. This idea supposedly came from Eric Fox's wife. Since 1928, each mint has been wrapped individually.

Peppy the Polar Bear Mascot

Since 1922, the mints have featured a special character called Peppy the polar bear. Peppy was designed by an artist named Clarence Reginald Dalby. Peppy is usually shown standing on one of the clear mints. He became a big part of the mints' advertising.

What Glacier Mints Look Like

Glacier Mints look like tiny blocks of ice. They are clear and see-through, which is why they are called "Glacier" Mints.

Other Fox's Sweets

Besides the original mints, Fox's also makes other popular candies. Fox's Glacier Fruits were launched in 1956, offering different fruit flavors. Fox's Glacier Dark, a darker mint, came out in 2002.

Celebrating 100 Years

In 2018, Fox's Glacier Mints celebrated 100 years! To mark this special birthday, they released two new products. These included mints with a spearmint flavor and a new tropical selection of fruit-flavored sweets.
