Frédéric Mariotti (born April 1, 1883 – died February 22, 1971) was a French actor. He worked in both stage plays and movies. His acting career lasted for over 40 years. He started in the early days of silent films and continued until the early 1950s.

About Frédéric Mariotti

Frédéric Mariotti was born in Marseille, a city in France. He began his movie career in 1917. His first film was called La bonne hôtesse. It was directed by Georges Monca and made by Pathé Frères.

Early Film Career

In 1919, Frédéric Mariotti appeared in a crime drama called Barrabas. This movie was a film serial, which means it was released in many parts, like a TV show today. Barrabas had twelve parts. Later that same year, he was in another film serial. It was called La nouvelle aurore and had sixteen episodes.

One of his most famous roles was as a character named Toni. This was in the 1926 American film Mare Nostrum. The movie starred American actress Alice Terry and Spanish actor Antonio Moreno. For a long time, people thought this film was lost, but it was found and fixed up! Mariotti continued to act in French silent films throughout the 1920s. He worked with directors like Julien Duvivier.

Transition to Sound Films

Frédéric Mariotti easily moved from silent films to movies with sound. During the 1930s, he acted in about 45 films. Even during World War II, when parts of France were occupied, he kept acting. He appeared in films by directors such as Jean Boyer. Most of his roles during this time were smaller parts.

After World War II ended, Mariotti continued to act. However, his roles became even smaller. Often, his name wasn't even listed in the movie credits. His very last film role was a small part in a comedy called Coq en pâte. This movie was filmed in 1951 and released in 1952. After this film, Mariotti retired from acting. He had appeared in over 100 movies!

Later Life and Death

After he retired from films, Frédéric Mariotti lived in Paris, France. He passed away there in 1971. He was 87 years old.
