Frances (Fran) Bodkin, born in 1937, is an amazing Australian botanist and a respected Dharawal elder. A botanist is a scientist who studies plants. As a Dharawal elder, she holds important knowledge and traditions from her Indigenous community.

Fran Bodkin wrote an important book called Encyclopaedia Botanica: The Essential Reference Guide to Native and Exotic Plants in Australia. It was published in 1986. This book is a guide to many different plants found in Australia.

In the 1970s, Fran helped to create the Australian Botanic Garden Mount Annan. This special garden is near Sydney. It was built on a site that was once a meeting place for Indigenous people.
