Frances Freeling Broderip was born in 1830 in Winchmore Hill, Middlesex, England. Her father was Thomas Hood, a well-known poet. Her mother was Jane Reynolds. Frances was named after a friend of her father's, Sir Francis Freeling, who worked for the post office. She also had a younger brother named Tom Hood, who became a humorist, someone who writes funny things.

Her Family Life

In 1849, Frances married John Somerville Broderip. He was a reverend, which means he was a church leader. John Broderip was from a place called Cossington in Somersetshire. He became the rector (head priest) of the church there in 1844. Frances and John had four daughters together. Her husband passed away in 1866.

Later Years and Passing

Frances Freeling Broderip died in 1878 when she was 48 years old. She passed away in a town called Clevedon. She was buried in a churchyard nearby. She is remembered as a children's writer from the 1800s.
