Frances Whitmore facts for kids
Frances Whitmore (born in 1666, died in 1695) was a lady who lived at the royal court in Britain. She was one of the famous "Hampton Court Beauties." These were a series of paintings created by the artist Sir Godfrey Kneller for Queen Mary II. Frances was also known as Dame Frances Myddelton.
Her Family Life
Frances Whitmore came from an important family. Her father was Sir Thomas Whitmore. His father was Sir Thomas Whitmore, 1st Baronet. A "Baronet" was a special title, like a knight, that could be passed down in the family.
Her mother was Hon. Frances Brooke (1640–1690).
Around 1686, Frances married Sir Richard Myddelton, 3rd Baronet (1655–1716). They had three children together:
- Frances Myddelton (who passed away in 1693)
- Mary Myddelton (1688–1747)
- Sir William Myddelton, 4th Baronet (1694–1718), who later inherited his father's title.
The Hampton Court Beauties
Frances Whitmore was one of the women chosen to be painted for the "Hampton Court Beauties" series. These paintings showed important ladies of the court during the time of Queen Mary II. The queen wanted to decorate her palace at Hampton Court with portraits of the most admired women.
After she married, Frances Whitmore became known as Lady Myddelton. It's interesting to know that her husband's aunt, Mrs. Myddelton, was also painted in another famous series called the "Windsor Beauties." Frances's own mother, Lady Whitmore, was also part of the "Windsor Beauties" collection. These paintings helped show the beauty and importance of ladies at the royal court during that time.
