Francesco Lupicini (born 1590, died 1656) was a talented Italian painter. He lived a long time ago, in the 1600s. Even though he was born in Italy, he spent much of his painting career in Zaragoza, a city in Spain.

Who Was Francesco Lupicini?

Francesco Lupicini was born in Florence, a famous city in Italy known for its art and artists. He was related to another painter named Gian Battista Lupicini, who was either his cousin or his brother. Sometimes, people even thought Gian Battista had painted Francesco's works!

A Famous Painting

One of Francesco Lupicini's well-known paintings shows a scene with Mary Magdalene and her sister Martha. In this painting, Martha is gently telling Mary Magdalene off. This artwork is very special and is now kept in a famous art museum called the Kunsthistorisches Museum.

A long time ago, a rich art collector named Archduke Leopold Wilhelm bought this painting. He loved it so much that he had it "engraved." This means someone made a print of the painting, so more people could see and enjoy it, even if they couldn't see the original. These engravings were collected in a book called Theatrum Pictorium, which was like an art catalog of its time.

Where Did He Live?

Francesco Lupicini spent a lot of his life working as an artist. He eventually passed away in 1656 in Zaragoza, Spain, where he had made a name for himself.
