Francia (river) facts for kids
The Francia River is a small river in Spain, about 25 kilometers (15.5 miles) long. It's a tributary, which means it's a smaller river that flows into a larger one. The Francia River joins the Alagón River, which then flows into the Tagus River.
Where Does the Francia River Start and End?
The Francia River begins high up in the mountains, in a place called the Valle de Lera. This area is part of the Sierra de Francia mountain range. The river's source is about 1,350 meters (4,430 feet) above sea level. From there, it flows downhill until it meets the Alagón River. This meeting point is much lower, at about 420 meters (1,380 feet) above sea level.
Why Is the Francia River Important?
This river is quite special because it gives its name to the beautiful Sierra de Francia mountain range. This mountain range is located south of the city of Salamanca in Spain.
A big part of the Francia River's journey goes through a special protected area. This area is known as the Las Batuecas-Sierra de Francia Natural Park. Natural parks are important because they help protect the plants, animals, and natural beauty of the area.
