Francis Hastings, Lord Hastings facts for kids
Francis Hastings, Lord Hastings (born in 1560, died December 17, 1595) was an important person in English history. He was the son of George Hastings, 4th Earl of Huntingdon and Dorothy Port. Francis married Sarah Harington, who was the daughter of Sir James Harington and Lucy Sydney. Francis and Sarah had five children:
- Catherine, who later married Philip Stanhope, 1st Earl of Chesterfield. She passed away on August 28, 1636.
- Henry, who became the next Earl of Huntingdon after his grandfather.
- Sir George Hastings.
- Captain Edward Hastings, who died in 1617.
- Theodosia Hastings, who married Sir Francis Bodenham.
After Francis passed away, his wife, Sarah Harington (1565-1628), married two more times. First, she married Sir George Kingsmill, then Edward, 11th Baron Zouche, and finally, Sir Thomas Edmondes. Famous artists like Isaac Oliver and Cornelius Johnson painted her portrait. The portraits by Cornelius Johnson show her at 63 years old, wearing a special miniature case. This case had a Greek letter "phi" and seemed to refer to Frederick V of the Palatinate.
Who Could Be the Next Monarch?
In a TV show called Britain's Real Monarch, they explored an interesting idea: who would be the monarch if the royal family followed a different line of succession? This idea looks at the descendants of the Plantagenet kings, a very old royal family in England.
