Francis Edward Basil Napier (1876–1941) was an important British nobleman. He held the titles of the 12th Lord Napier and the 3rd Baron Ettrick.
Serving in World War I
During the First World War, Francis Edward Basil Napier was a captain. He served in the 7th Battalion of the King's Royal Rifle Corps. In May 1917, he tried to avoid military service. He asked to be excused, but his request was turned down. This was because he had not done the special factory work he had promised. This work was called "munition work" and helped make supplies for the war.
His Family Life
Francis Edward Basil Napier was the son of William John George Napier, 11th Lord Napier, 2nd Baron Ettrick and Grace Burns.
In 1899, he married Hon. Clarice Jessie E. Hamilton. She was the daughter of James Hamilton, 9th Lord Belhaven and Stenton. Francis and Clarice had two children:
- William Francis Cyril James Hamilton Napier, who later became the 13th Lord Napier after his father.
- The Hon. Neville Archibald John Watson Ettrick Napier, who was a Lieutenant Commander in the Royal Navy.
