Early Life and Education
Francis Rivett was likely a student at Emmanuel College, Cambridge, starting on May 29, 1612. He finished his studies and earned a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in 1616.
Becoming a Landowner
Around the year 1649, Francis Rivett bought a large piece of land called the King's Somborne estate. He purchased it from a person named Richard Gifford. Owning an estate meant he was a significant landowner in his area.
Political Career in Parliament
Francis Rivett was involved in the government during a time of change in England. He was chosen by people to represent them in Parliament.
Serving as an MP
In 1654, Rivett was elected as a Member of Parliament (MP) for Hampshire. He served in a special government assembly called the First Protectorate Parliament. An MP is someone elected to speak for the people in their area.

Later, in 1659, he was elected again as an MP, this time for the area of Stockbridge. He served in another assembly called the Third Protectorate Parliament.
