Francisco Becerra facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Francisco Becerra (born around 1545, died in 1605) was a very important Spanish architect. He was born in a town called Trujillo in Spain. Becerra became famous for designing and helping to build many large churches, called cathedrals, in the New World (which is what people called the Americas back then).

Building in the Americas

Francisco Becerra spent a lot of his life working on big construction projects in the Americas. He helped shape the look of many important cities with his designs.

Puebla Cathedral

One of his most famous projects was the Puebla Cathedral in Mexico. It's not completely clear if he designed the whole cathedral himself or if he worked on it using plans made by another architect named Claudio de Arciniega. Either way, he played a big part in its construction.

Other Works in Puebla

Besides the cathedral, Becerra also built several convents in the city of Puebla. Convents are buildings where religious communities, like nuns, live and work.

Projects in Peru

Becerra's work wasn't just in Mexico. He also designed a large cathedral in Lima, Peru, which is the capital city of Peru. He also worked on a church in Cuzco, another important city in Peru.

Designing Bridges

Beyond churches and convents, Francisco Becerra also designed several bridges. Bridges are important structures that help people cross rivers or valleys, making travel much easier.
