From Spain to South America
Francisco García Romero was born in 1559 in a city called Cáceres, Spain. His parents were Francisco García Moroto and Inés Martin. In 1603, he traveled across the ocean and arrived in the Rio de la Plata region. This area is now part of Argentina and Uruguay.
His Important Roles in Buenos Aires
Once in the Rio de la Plata, Francisco García Romero took on many important jobs. He held several political positions in the city of Buenos Aires. These roles were part of the Buenos Aires Cabildo, which was like the city council or local government back then.
He served as an alcalde, which was similar to a mayor or a judge. He was also a fiel ejecutor, someone who made sure rules about trade and prices were followed. Another role he had was attorney general, representing the city's legal interests. He also served as a deputy, acting as a representative for the people in the Cabildo.
Family Life
Francisco García Romero got married in Asunción, a city that is now the capital of Paraguay. His wife was Mariana González de Santa Cruz. Her parents were Bartolomé González de Villaverde and María Santa Cruz. Mariana came from a well-known family of early Spanish settlers in the region.
