Frank D. Scott Jr. was born on November 18, 1983. He is an American politician from the state of Arkansas. He is the current mayor of Little Rock, Arkansas. He started serving as mayor in January 2019. Scott is a member of the Democratic Party.

Frank Scott Jr.: Little Rock's Mayor
Frank Scott Jr. grew up in Southwest Little Rock. He went to Parkview Arts and Science Magnet High School. After high school, he earned a bachelor's degree in business from the University of Memphis. He also earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.
Starting in Public Service
Frank Scott Jr. began his work in public service with the Arkansas Governor. He worked there for five years. First, he helped with new ideas as a deputy policy director. Later, he worked to connect different government groups.
After this, Scott worked as a community banker. But he still spent a lot of time helping his city and state. He was on the Port of Little Rock Board of Directors. He also served on the Arkansas Highway Commission.
Becoming Mayor of Little Rock
In 2018, Frank Scott Jr. decided to run for mayor of Little Rock. In the first election, he received the most votes. However, he needed more than 40% of the votes to win right away.
Because of this, he went into a second election called a runoff. He ran against another candidate, Baker Kurrus. Frank Scott Jr. won the runoff election. He became the first African American mayor ever elected in Little Rock. He was sworn into office on January 1, 2019.
What He's Done as Mayor
In his first term, Mayor Scott suggested a plan called "Rebuild the Rock." This plan aimed to improve the city. It would help fix roads and parks. It also planned for a senior center and a sports complex. The plan would also upgrade technology for police and firefighters.
This plan needed a new sales tax to pay for it. The people of Little Rock voted on this idea in September 2021. The plan was not approved at that time. Mayor Scott continues to work for a new sales tax. Another vote is planned for November 2024.
Mayor Scott ran for re-election in 2022. He won against Steve Landers, Sr. He received 50% of the votes.
In April 2023, the Arkansas Ethics Commission looked into how Mayor Scott used a city car. They found that he had used his city-owned vehicle for campaign events. He paid a small fee of $250 to resolve the issue.
