Frank Strahan (born July 2, 1886 – died May 4, 1976) was an important Australian public servant. A public servant is someone who works for the government to help run the country. From 1935 to 1949, he was the top leader, called the Secretary, of the Prime Minister's Department. This department helps the Prime Minister manage the country.

Life and Career of Frank Strahan
Frank Strahan was born in a place called Fryerstown, in Victoria, Australia. His birthday was July 2, 1886.
Becoming a Government Leader
In November 1935, Frank Strahan became the Secretary of the Prime Minister's Department. This was a very important job. He was the first person from the Commonwealth Public Service to attend a meeting of the Cabinet. The Cabinet is a group of senior government ministers who make big decisions for the country. He joined a Cabinet meeting in July 1941.
Leading Two Departments
In 1941, a new government department was created. It was called the Department of External Territories. This department looked after Australia's territories outside the main country. Frank Strahan was chosen to be its Secretary too.
For a few years, from 1941 to 1944, Frank Strahan led two important departments at the same time! He was in charge of both the Prime Minister's Department and the Department of External Territories. In 1944, another person named J.R. Halligan took over the Department of External Territories.
Retirement and Later Life
Frank Strahan retired from his government work in August 1949. He passed away on May 4, 1976, in Camberwell, Melbourne.
