Fred Hampton Jr. is an American activist from Chicago. He was born Alfred Johnson on December 29, 1969. He leads two important groups: the Prisoners of Conscience Committee and the Black Panther Party Cubs. He is the only child of Fred Hampton, a famous leader of the Black Panther Party. His father was killed in Chicago in 1969. His mother is Akua Njeri.

Early Life and Family

Fred Hampton Jr. was born in Chicago, Illinois. His parents were Fred Hampton and Deborah Johnson. His father was a leader in the Black Panther Party. Fred Jr. was born just 25 days after his father passed away.

His mother first named him Alfred Johnson. When he was ten years old, she changed his name legally. He became Fred Hampton Jr. His mother also changed her name to Akua Njeri. She chose this name to show her connection to Africa.

Education and Learning

Fred Hampton Jr. went to Tilden High School in Chicago. After high school, he continued his studies. He studied journalism at Olive–Harvey College.

His Work as an Activist

In the late 1980s, Fred Hampton Jr. started his work as an activist. He also worked part-time as an auto mechanic. He often spoke at rallies and helped organize events. He worked with a group called the National People's Democratic Uhuru Movement. This group included people of different races. He also sold their newspaper, The Burning Spear.

Leading Important Groups

Today, Fred Hampton Jr. is the president and chairman of two groups. These are the Prisoners of Conscience Committee (POCC) and the Black Panther Party Cubs (BPPC). The Black Panther Party Cubs are made up of the children and grandchildren of former Black Panther Party members.

He continues to work hard to bring people together. He wants to unite people from different backgrounds. He also shares his experiences through spoken word and poetry. He often talks about his experiences with police and being in prison.
