Frederick Purser (born 1839, died 1910) was a smart Irish mathematician and writer. He was also a member of the Royal Irish Academy, a group for important thinkers. Frederick had an older brother, John Purser, who was also a mathematician.
Frederick Purser's Life and Achievements
Frederick Purser was born in Dublin, Ireland. When he was young, he went to a special boarding school. His uncle, Richard Biggs, ran this school in Wiltshire, England.
Later, Frederick went to Trinity College Dublin (TCD). This is a very famous university in Ireland. He was a top student there, becoming a 'Scholar' in 1859. He earned his first degree (BA) in 1860. Then he got his master's degree (MA) in 1864.
In 1879, he became a 'Fellow' at Trinity College. This means he was chosen as an important academic member. He taught at the college for many years. In 1902, he became a Professor of Natural Philosophy. This job involved teaching about science and how the world works. He kept this important role until he passed away in 1910.
Frederick also wrote articles for the 1911 Encyclopedia Britannica. This shows how much he knew about different subjects.
