Fredericktown-Millsboro was a special kind of community in Pennsylvania, United States. It was called a "census-designated place" (CDP). This means it was a place the government counted for population, but it wasn't a city or town with its own local government.

In the year 2000, about 1,094 people lived there. Later, for the 2010 census, this area was divided. It became two separate CDPs: Fredericktown and Millsboro.

Discovering Fredericktown-Millsboro's Location

This former community was located in East Bethlehem Township. This area is part of Washington County, in the state of Pennsylvania.

Geographical Features

Fredericktown-Millsboro covered an area of about 1.8 square miles (4.7 square kilometers). All of this land was dry land, with no large bodies of water inside its borders.

Both Fredericktown and Millsboro are found along the Monongahela River. They sit in the valley next to the river.

Coal Mining History

These communities and the areas around them were once home to many bituminous coal mines. Bituminous coal is a type of soft coal used for energy.

The landscape in this area has changed a bit because of these mines. You can see large piles of coal waste, called "slate dumps," along the riverbanks. These are big mounds made from the leftover materials from mining coal.

Who Lived in Fredericktown-Millsboro?

In 2000, when the last count was done for Fredericktown-Millsboro as one place, there were 1,094 people living there. These people made up 446 households and 290 families.

Population Details

The area had about 624 people living in each square mile. There were also about 510 houses or housing units.

Most of the people living there were White (about 97.9%). A smaller number were African American (about 1%), or Native American (less than 1%). Some people were of two or more races. A very small number (less than 1%) were Hispanic or Latino.

Households and Families

Out of all the households, about 29.4% had children under 18 living with them. More than half (52.2%) were married couples living together. About 9.6% of households were led by a woman without a husband present.

About 30.7% of all households were made up of just one person. And about 18.4% of households had someone aged 65 or older living alone. On average, there were 2.45 people in each household. Families were a bit larger, with an average of 3.07 people.
