Fredric Aasbø (born August 18, 1985) is a professional drifter and stunt driver from Siggerud, Norway. He is well-known for competing in the exciting Formula Drift Championship.
Aasbø is a three-time Formula Drift champion. He won the championship in 2015, 2021, and 2022. He also holds the record for the most wins of any driver in the series' history, with 19 victories as of May 2024. He has also finished as the runner-up in the championship several times.
Fredric Aasbø's Drifting Career
Fredric Aasbø began his drifting career as a privateer. This means he raced on his own without a big team. He drove a Toyota Supra at the start. He won the Nordic Drifting Championship titles in 2007 and 2008. These wins happened while he was competing in his home region of Scandinavia. He then made his first appearance in the U.S. at a global drifting event in 2008.
In 2012, he showed his driving skills by winning the "Pro" category. This was at the famous Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race.
Formula D Achievements
In 2010, Aasbø competed in his first full season in the U.S. as a privateer. He quickly made a name for himself. He earned the Formula Drift 'Rookie of the Year' award for his amazing performance.
In 2011, he joined the Papadakis Racing team. He took over from driver Tanner Foust, who had left drifting. From 2011 to 2016, he drove a Scion tC in the United States. Later, he drove a Toyota GT86 when competing in Europe.
Aasbø had a very successful year in 2014. He won the Formula Drift Asia title. He also finished as the runner-up in the U.S. Formula Drift Pro Championship.
He achieved his first Formula Drift Pro Championship title in 2015. He won four out of seven rounds that season. He also won the Formula Drift World Championship in his Papadakis Racing Scion tC. In the same year, he received a special award. He was named FIA's Driver of the Year for Norway. He accepted this honor from Norwegian World Rally Champion Petter Solberg.
Aasbø continued his strong performance in 2016. He finished as the championship runner-up after winning two rounds.
From 2017 to 2018, he started driving different Toyota hatchback cars. In 2017, he finished second in the championship. He was driving a Toyota Corolla iM. In 2018, Papadakis Racing introduced a new car. It was the Rockstar Energy Drink / Nexen Tire Toyota Corolla Hatchback. He again finished as the championship runner-up that year.
For the fourth year in a row, Aasbø finished as the championship runner-up. This happened in Formula D during the 2019 season.
In 2020, Aasbø and Papadakis Racing launched their brand new Toyota GR Supra. This car was used for the 2020 Formula D season and beyond. The GR Supra has a powerful B58 engine. It produces over 1000 horsepower, using the original engine block.
In 2021, Aasbø won the Formula D championship title. He had a podium finish or a win in almost every round that season.
Aasbø won the Formula D championship title for the second year in a row in 2022. He had two wins and two other podium finishes during that season.
Other Work and Interests
Fredric Aasbø is also a talented stunt driver. His stunt work has been featured in the Norwegian action film Børning. He has also appeared in advertisement campaigns for Toyota.
His wife, Hunter Taylor, has also started her own career as a rookie drifter.
