Fredrikke Egeberg (born November 23, 1815 – died May 16, 1861) was a talented Norwegian pianist and composer. She was known for her beautiful songs and piano pieces in the mid-1800s.
Her Family and Early Life
Fredrikke Egeberg was born in Christiania, which is now known as Oslo. Her parents were Westye Egeberg and Anna Sophie Muus. Her father owned a successful lumber company, making her family quite wealthy. Fredrikke was the youngest of nine children and the only daughter.
Music was a big part of her family's life. The famous violinist Ole Bull was a family friend and often played music with them at home. Her brother, Christian, became a skilled cello player. Even her two nieces, Anna Egeberg and Fredrikke Lindboe, grew up to be composers, writing their own songs and piano pieces. This musical environment helped Fredrikke develop her own talents.
Becoming a Musician
Fredrikke Egeberg became a very skilled pianist. She often played the piano at Old Aker Church, which was close to her family's home. She also performed in concerts with the Musical Lyceum orchestra, showing off her abilities to a wider audience.
After 1840, Fredrikke started composing her own music. She was very creative and wrote more than thirty songs, as well as pieces for piano and choir. Her music became quite popular in the 1850s. Fredrikke Egeberg lived on a farm called Berg in Sem, located in Vestfold, where she passed away in 1861.
