Freedom Williams' Music Journey
Early Life and Start in Music
Freedom Williams was born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1966. He studied to become an audio engineer, which means he learned how to record and mix music. He also worked as a janitor at a recording studio in New York City called Quad Recording Studios.
While working there, two famous music producers, Robert Clivillés and David Cole, often used the studio. They noticed Freedom Williams' unique voice and rhythmic style. In 1989, they released a song called "Get Dumb! (Free Your Body)" with Williams as "The Crew featuring Freedom Williams."
Joining C+C Music Factory
In 1990, Clivillés and Cole asked Freedom Williams to join their new music group, C+C Music Factory. He became the lead rapper for their first album, Gonna Make You Sweat. His rapping was a big part of many songs on the album.
Some of the group's most famous songs featured Freedom Williams. These included "Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)", which became a number one hit. Other popular songs were "Here We Go (Let's Rock & Roll)" and "Things That Make You Go Hmmm...". All these songs were also number one hits on the dance music charts.
Solo Career and Later Work
Freedom Williams released his first solo album, Freedom, on June 1, 1993. His song "Voice of Freedom" did very well, reaching number 4 on the dance music charts. Another song from the album, "Groove Your Mind," also charted.
In 2004, he had another hit in the United Kingdom with "Sweat the Remixes." This song was played a lot on the radio and reached number 8 on the UK Dance Charts. Freedom Williams also provided rap vocals for the Eurodance group Masterboy's "US Album" in 2006.
Performing as C+C Music Factory
In the late 1990s, Freedom Williams began performing shows around the world. He used the name C+C Music Factory or a similar name for his performances. In 2003, he officially gained the legal right to use the name "C and C Music Factory" for live shows. He has continued to tour and perform under this name.
