Freedom Williams' Music Career
Freedom Williams was born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1966. He studied to become an audio engineer. He also worked as a janitor at Quad Recording Studios in New York.
Joining C+C Music Factory
While working at the studio, Williams met Robert Clivillés and David Cole. They were music producers who often used the studio. Clivillés and Cole liked Williams' deep voice and his rapping style. They asked him to join their new music group, C+C Music Factory.
Williams rapped on their first album, Gonna Make You Sweat, released in 1990. His voice is on many popular songs from that album. This includes "Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)", which was a number one hit. He also rapped on "Here We Go (Let's Rock & Roll)" and "Things That Make You Go Hmmm...". All three of these songs were number one hits on the dance music charts.
Solo Music and Other Projects
Freedom Williams released his first solo album, Freedom, in 1993. It came out on Columbia Records. One song from the album, "Voice of Freedom," became a hit. It reached number 74 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It also went to number 4 on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart. Another song, "Groove Your Mind," also did well on the dance charts.
In 2004, Williams had more success in the UK with his song "Sweat the Remixes." This song was played on national radio and reached number 8 on the UK Dance Charts. He also provided all the rap vocals for the Eurodance group Masterboy's "US Album" in 2006.
Williams also owned a basketball team for a while. He was the main owner of the Continental Basketball Association's Atlanta Krunk team.
In the late 1990s, Williams started performing shows around the world. He often used the name C+C Music Factory or a similar name. In 2003, he got the legal right to use the name "C and C Music Factory" for live shows. He has continued to tour under this name.
