Freestone, Texas facts for kids
Freestone is a small, unincorporated community located in Freestone County, within the U.S. state of Texas. An "unincorporated community" means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own city government. Instead, the county helps manage things like roads and services for the area.
History
Freestone wasn't always called Freestone. This community was originally known as Bond's Prairie. Its real start came in 1905. That's when a railroad line was built and extended to this spot. Railroads were very important back then. They helped new communities grow by bringing people and goods.
A year later, in 1906, a post office was opened here. It was named Freestone. A post office is where people send and receive mail. Having one meant the community was becoming more established. The Freestone post office served the area for many years. It finally closed down in 1975.
