Friendsville is a small place in Medina County, Ohio. It's called an "unincorporated community" because it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town does. Instead, it's part of the larger county.
The History of Friendsville
Friendsville got its name from the people who first settled there. Many of these early settlers were Quakers. Quakers are a religious group also known as the "Religious Society of Friends." So, the name "Friendsville" comes from these friendly early residents.
Before it was called Friendsville, the area had another name: Winstons Corners. This name came from Joseph S. Winston, who was the first person to own the land where the community now stands.
A post office was opened in Friendsville in 1867. This was an important place for people to send and receive letters and packages. However, the post office eventually closed down in 1901.
