Fruitdale, Dallas facts for kids
Fruitdale, sometimes called Fruitdale Acres, is an area in Dallas, Texas, in the United States. It used to be its own independent city.
The Story of Fruitdale
Becoming Its Own City
In 1937, Fruitdale decided to become an "incorporated city." This means it officially became its own town with its own local government. They did this on April 17, 1937. The main reason was to avoid being "annexed" by the larger city of Dallas. Annexation is when a bigger city takes over a smaller area next to it.
Joining Dallas
Many years later, in October 1964, the people living in Fruitdale voted to "disincorporate." This meant they decided to stop being an independent city. The next month, in November 1964, Dallas officially annexed Fruitdale. From then on, Fruitdale became a neighborhood within the city of Dallas.
