He used his own name and also other names, called pseudonyms, for his stories. His most well-known books are the exciting San-Antonio detective series.

About Frédéric Dard

Frédéric Dard wrote 175 adventures in the San-Antonio series. Millions of copies of these books were sold! The main character is a detective named Antoine San-Antonio. He's a bit like a French secret agent, but without all the fancy gadgets.

San-Antonio works with two interesting friends:

  • Inspector César Pinaud, who is older and very wise.
  • Inspector Alexandre-Benoît Bérurier, who is very big and strong, like a giant!

These three work for the French secret service. They get tough missions from their boss, who they call "Le Vieux" (the Old Man), or sometimes "Achilles." No matter how difficult the mission, San-Antonio and his friends always find a way to succeed through many exciting adventures.

Frédéric Dard was a very talented writer. He even won a special award for one of his books, The Executioner Weeps, in 1957. This award was called the Grand prix de littérature policière, which means "Grand Prize for Detective Literature."
