Fujio Yamamoto's Football Journey
Fujio Yamamoto was born in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan, on May 27, 1966. He grew up loving football and became a professional player. Later, he used his experience to become a successful football manager.
Playing Days as a Defender
After finishing his studies at the University of Tsukuba, Yamamoto joined a football club called Mitsubishi Motors in 1990. This club later became known as Urawa Reds. He played as a defender, which means his main job was to stop the other team from scoring goals.
In 1992, the main football league in Japan, the Japan Soccer League, changed. A new league called the J1 League was created. Yamamoto moved to a different team, NKK, in 1993. He played many games for NKK. However, that club stopped playing at the end of 1993.
In 1994, Yamamoto joined Bellmare Hiratsuka, a team that had just moved up to the J1 League. He played for them until he retired from playing football at the end of the 1996 season. During his time as a player, he played a total of 46 games and scored 1 goal.
Becoming a Football Manager
After his playing career, Fujio Yamamoto started coaching and managing football teams. A manager is like the head coach of a team. They decide who plays, what strategies the team uses, and how the players train.
Yamamoto has managed several teams over the years. He coached high school teams like Toin Gakuen High School and Tama University Meguro Junior and Senior High School for many years. He also worked with younger players (U-17 to U-20) for Zhejiang FC in China from 2014 to 2017.
More recently, he managed Renofa Yamaguchi's U-18 team from 2019 to 2021. In 2023 and 2024, he was the manager for Blancdieu Hirosaki, a team in the Tohoku Soccer League.
As of 2025, Fujio Yamamoto is the manager of Atletico Suzuka. He started this role in 2025 and continues to lead the team.
