Fujiwara no Atsutada facts for kids
Fujiwara no Atsutada (born in 906, died April 18, 943) was an important person in ancient Japan. He lived during the Heian period, a time when art and poetry were very popular. Atsutada was a famous poet and also held important jobs in the government.
He was chosen as one of the "Thirty-six Poetry Immortals." This was a special group of the best poets from his time. People also knew him by his nicknames, like Hon'in Chūnagon and Biwa Chūnagon. A Chūnagon was a high-ranking government official, like a "Middle Counselor."
Atsutada was the son of Fujiwara no Tokihira, who was also a very powerful person in the government.
His Famous Poetry
Many of Atsutada's poems are still around today. He often wrote poems to court women. Some of his poems were even put into official poetry books. One of these books is called Gosen Wakashū.
A Poem from Hyakunin Isshu
One of his most famous poems is in a well-known collection called Hyakunin Isshu. This book has 100 poems by 100 different poets.

逢ひ見ての後の心にくらぶれば
昔は物を思はざりけりmy feelings before were nothing at all.
Compared to how I feel after meeting you,

This poem shows how deeply he felt after meeting someone special. It means that his past feelings were not as strong as his new ones.
