Funimation Productions, LLC is an American entertainment company. It is very well known for its work with anime. Funimation takes shows and movies made in other countries and makes them ready for audiences in the U.S. and other places. They do this by dubbing them, which means changing the original voices to English.
Most of Funimation (95%) is owned by Sony. This ownership is shared between two parts of Sony: Sony Pictures and Sony Music Entertainment Japan. The other 5% of the company belongs to Gen Fukunaga. He is one of the people who started Funimation. The company's main office is in Flower Mound, Texas. Funimation is one of the most important companies in North America for releasing anime and other entertainment from different countries.
The Start of Funimation
Funimation was created on May 9, 1994. It was started by Gen Fukunaga and his wife, Cindy Fukunaga. When it first began, the company was called FUNimation Productions.
Changes in Ownership
Over the years, Funimation has had a few different owners. In 2005, a company called Navarre Corporation bought Funimation. At that time, its name was changed to FUNimation Entertainment. Later, in 2011, Navarre sold Funimation to a group of investors. These are people who put money into a company hoping it will grow.
