Fuzzy's Taco Shop is an American restaurant chain that serves Mexican food. It's known for its Baja-style cooking, which is inspired by the food of Baja California in Mexico. The restaurants are considered fast casual, meaning they are quicker than a sit-down restaurant but offer higher quality food than a typical fast-food place. Fuzzy's is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and has over 150 locations across 17 states.
History of Fuzzy's Taco Shop
The First Taco Shop
The story of Fuzzy's began in 2001. A man named Paul Willis, with help from Chef Steve Mitchell, opened the very first Fuzzy's Taco Shop. It was located on West Berry Street in Fort Worth, Texas, right near the Texas Christian University campus. This made it a popular spot for college students.
In 2003, two brothers, Chuck and Alan Bush, bought the restaurant. They saw how much people loved it and decided to help it grow. In 2007, they opened a second Fuzzy's in another part of Fort Worth. This was the start of a major expansion.
Growing Bigger
The Bush brothers used a business model called franchising. This is when a company allows other people to open their own store using the company's name and recipes. They focused on opening new Fuzzy's locations near college campuses, but soon they started opening them in other areas too.
The company grew quickly. By 2012, there were 50 Fuzzy's Taco Shops. Just four years later, in 2016, they opened their 100th location. That same year, a company called NRD Capital Management bought a large part of Fuzzy's.
By early 2019, Fuzzy's had reached 150 restaurants. Today, you can find Fuzzy's Taco Shops in many states, including Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado, and Florida. In 2022, the chain was bought by Dine Brands, the same company that owns Applebee's and IHOP.
