Her Early Life and Marriage
GI-Kʼawiil was born in a place called Cancuén. This was another significant Maya city. She later married Uchaʼan Kʼin Bʼalam, who was the king of Dos Pilas. When she married him, she became the Queen consort, which means she was the king's wife and shared his royal status.
Royal Duties and Appearances
Queen GI-Kʼawiil played a role in the royal life of Dos Pilas. An ancient stone carving, known as Dos Pilas Panel 19, shows King Uchaʼan Kʼin Bʼalam and Queen GI-Kʼawiil together. They are shown leading an important ceremony that included a young boy.
Another historical record, called the Hieroglyphic Bench of GI-Kʼawiil, mentions her husband. This bench describes King Uchaʼan Kʼin Bʼalam as "He of Five Captives." This title likely refers to his military victories.
