What is Gold TV?

Gold is a TV channel that shows lots of classic comedy and entertainment shows. It's a "pay television" channel, which means you usually need to pay a subscription to watch it, often as part of a TV package. It's very popular for showing older, much-loved programmes that people enjoy watching again and again.

How Gold Got Its Name

When the channel first launched in 1992, it was called UK Gold. This name lasted for quite a while. In 2004, the channel changed its name to UKTV Gold. This change helped show that it was part of the bigger UKTV family of channels.

Becoming Just 'Gold'

Later on, the channel simplified its name even more. From 2 August 2019, it became known simply as Gold. This shorter name is easier to remember. Other channels in the UKTV network, like Dave, Alibi, and W, also have simple, single-word names.

What Can You Watch on Gold?

Gold is famous for showing classic British comedy. You might see shows that your parents or even grandparents enjoyed when they were younger. These often include sitcoms and sketch shows that have become very well-known over the years. It's a great place to discover funny programmes from the past.
