Gabrielle Wiehe was born in Moka, Mauritius, on July 14, 1980. Her father, Jacques, was an architect. The Wiehe family has roots in Denmark. A famous relative was Christian William Wiehe, who designed the beautiful Château de Labourdonnais.
Gabrielle's brother, Johann Wiehe, is also an architect. He even helped write her biography in 2010. Another famous family member was Ernest Wiehe, her father's first cousin. He was a well-known Mauritian saxophonist.
Her Education and Early Work
After finishing school at Lycée Labourdonnais in Mauritius, Gabrielle moved to France in 1998. That same year, she began studying graphic design in Paris.
She graduated from the intuit lab school in 2002. The next year, she published a book with Mango Jeunesse. In this book, she illustrated two classic tales by Charles Perrault: The Puss in Boots and The Fairies. Before this, she had also created a book called Bestioles. It was published in 2005 by L'atelier du poisson soluble.
