Gabrielle Wiehe grew up in Moka, Mauritius. Her father, Jacques, was an architect. An architect is someone who designs buildings. Her family, the Wiehes, originally came from Denmark.
A famous person in her family was Christian William Wiehe. He was also an architect. He designed a beautiful old building called Château de Labourdonnais. Gabrielle's brother, Johann Wiehe, is also an architect. He even helped write a book about Gabrielle in 2010. Another family member, her father's cousin Ernest Wiehe, was a well-known saxophonist from Mauritius.
Education and First Books
After finishing school at Lycée Labourdonnais in Mauritius, Gabrielle moved to France in 1998. She went to Paris to study graphic design. Graphic design is about creating visual things, like logos and pictures for books.
She finished her studies at a school called intuit lab in 2002. The very next year, she published a book with Mango Jeunesse. In this book, she drew pictures for two classic stories by Charles Perrault: The Puss in Boots and The Fairies. Before this, she had also worked on a book called Bestioles, which came out in 2005.
