GameSpot is a popular website for video game fans. It was started in May 1996 by Pete Deemer, Vince Broady, and Jon Epstein. On GameSpot, you can find lots of information about video games.

How GameSpot Started

GameSpot began in 1996. At first, it mainly focused on games for personal computers, often called PCs. Later that same year, another website was made just for console games. Consoles are gaming systems like PlayStation or Xbox. This new site was called videogamespot.com.

Growing and Joining Forces

In 1997, videogamespot.com briefly changed its name to videogames.com. Then, in 1998, GameSpot.com and videogames.com joined together. They became one big website, covering both PC and console games. This made GameSpot a huge source for all kinds of video game news.

What GameSpot Offers

Today, GameSpot is known as one of the biggest game websites online. It offers many things for gamers. You can read reviews of new games to see if they are good. They also have previews of games that are still being made. You can find news about the gaming world and even download some game content.

Who Owns GameSpot Now

Over the years, GameSpot has had different owners. First, ZDNet bought GameSpot. Then, CNET Networks bought ZDNet. In 2008, CBS Corporation bought CNET Networks. Now, CBS Interactive owns GameSpot.

Website Changes

On October 3, 2005, GameSpot updated its website design. It started to look similar to another website called TV.com.
