A Look Back: Garden Bowl's History
The Garden Bowl first opened its doors way back in 1913. That makes it Detroit's oldest bowling alley that has never closed! Imagine all the games played there over more than a hundred years.
Changes Over Time
In 1934, a part of the building was removed. This happened because Woodward Avenue was made wider to its current size. The way the building looks today is mostly thanks to some big changes made in 1966.
Garden Bowl Today
The father of the current owner bought the Garden Bowl in 1946. It's still a popular place for bowling and fun!
Part of a Bigger Center
The Garden Bowl is part of a larger entertainment area called the Majestic Theater Center. This center also includes the nearby Majestic Theatre, the Majestic Cafe, and the Magic Stick. The Magic Stick is actually located upstairs in the same building as the Garden Bowl. There's also a place called Sgt. Pepperoni's. The Garden Bowl continues to be a busy and much-loved bowling alley.
