Gaspar Téllez-Girón (born May 25, 1625, died June 2, 1694) was an important Spanish general and a very high-ranking noble. He held many titles, including the 5th Duke of Osuna. A "Grandee of Spain" was a special title for the most important nobles in Spain.

He was a key figure in Spanish politics and military during his time. Gaspar Téllez-Girón served as the Viceroy of Catalonia from 1667 to 1669. A viceroy was like a governor who ruled a region for the king. He also became the Governor of the Duchy of Milan in Italy from 1670 to 1674.

As a general, he fought in the Portuguese Restoration War. However, he lost the Battle of Castelo Rodrigo in 1664.

Family Background

Gaspar Téllez-Girón came from a very important family. His grandfather was Pedro Téllez-Girón, 3rd Duke of Osuna. His grandfather was also a powerful leader, serving as the Viceroy of Sicily and Naples.

Gaspar's father was Juan Tellez-Girón y Enriquez de Ribera, 4th Duke of Osuna. He also held the title of Viceroy of Sicily. This shows that Gaspar's family had a long history of serving the Spanish crown in high positions.

Marriages and Children

Gaspar Téllez-Girón married twice. His marriages connected him to other powerful noble families in Spain.

First Marriage

In 1645, Gaspar married his cousin, Feliche de Sandoval Rojas y Enriquez de Cabrera. She was the 4th Duchess of Uceda. This meant she was also a "Grandee of Spain" in her own right.

Feliche passed away in Milan, Italy, on October 7, 1671. She was the daughter of Francisco de Sandoval Rojas, who was the 2nd Duke of Lerma and 2nd Duke of Uceda. Her mother, Felice, came from the powerful Colonna family.

Gaspar and Feliche had seven children, but only five daughters survived. These daughters later married into some of the most important noble families in Spain.

Second Marriage

In 1672, when he was 47 years old, Gaspar married again. His second wife was 19-year-old Ana Antonia Francisca. She was the 4th Marchioness of Caracena.

Ana Antonia Francisca's father was Luis de Benavides Carrillo, Marquis of Caracena. He had also been a Governor of the Duchy of Milan and the Habsburg Netherlands. Her mother was Catalina Ponce de León.
