Francisco María de Paula Téllez-Girón y Benavides (born in Madrid, Spain, on March 11, 1678 – died in Paris, France, on April 3, 1716) was an important Spanish nobleman and diplomat. He held many important titles, including the 6th Duke of Osuna, 6th Marquess of Peñafiel, and 10th Count of Ureña. He was also a Grandee of Spain, which meant he was one of the highest-ranking nobles in the country.

Francisco Téllez-Girón was born into a very important family. His father was Gaspar Téllez-Girón, 5th Duke de Osuna. His mother was Ana Antonia de Benavides Carrillo y Toledo. Francisco was their first son to survive childhood.

Early Life and Important Roles

When his father passed away in 1694, Francisco inherited many important positions. He became the 6th Duke of Osuna. He also took on roles like "Chief Notary of the Kingdom of Castile" and "Chief Waiter of the King." These were very important jobs in the king's royal court. He also served as a "Gentleman of the Chamber" for King Carlos II of Spain. This meant he was a close advisor to the king.

Working for the King

In 1700, a new king, Philip V of Spain, came to power. Francisco was chosen to welcome the new king at the border between Spain and France. He showed great respect to King Philip V and traveled with him to Madrid. Francisco quickly became a trusted advisor to the new king. He even traveled with King Philip V during his trips to Catalonia and Italy.

A Peacemaker for Spain

In late 1711, King Philip V chose Francisco for a very important mission. He was made a special ambassador and the main representative for the Peace of Utrecht. This was a big meeting to end a major war in Europe. Francisco traveled to Utrecht and, along with other important people, signed the Treaty of Utrecht on July 13, 1713. This treaty helped bring peace. He also worked to sign a peace agreement between Spain and Portugal in 1715.

Later Life and Legacy

After his success as a peacemaker, Francisco was going to become the Ambassador to the Court of Paris. Sadly, he passed away in Paris on April 13, 1716. He was only 38 years old.

He had married María del Pilar y del Rosario Remigia. She was the only daughter of Íñigo Melchor de Velasco, 7th Duke of Frías. Francisco and María had two daughters. Because they did not have any sons, his younger brother, José Maria, became the next Duke of Osuna.
