The Dukedom of Osuna is a special noble title in Spain. It was first given out in 1562 by King Philip II of Spain. The first person to hold this title was Pedro Girón de la Cueva. He was an important person who also served as a Viceroy (a ruler representing the king) in Naples.
The town of Osuna in Spain became very important in the 1400s. The Téllez-Girón family, who later became Dukes of Osuna, helped the town grow. They made Osuna the main city for their lands in Andalusia.

The Téllez-Girón family started gaining power in the mid-1400s. One of their family members, Alfonso Téllez-Girón de las Casas, became the Count of Ureña in 1464. This was a step up in their noble status. Their influence kept growing. Finally, in 1562, they received the even higher title of Duke of Osuna.

Another important pair were Pedro Téllez-Girón, 9th Duke of Osuna and his wife, María Josefa Pimentel. They loved art and supported a famous painter named Francisco José de Goya y Lucientes. Goya painted many portraits of their family.

Mariano Téllez-Girón, 12th Duke of Osuna was also a notable figure. He traveled a lot and represented Spain in important events. For example, he attended the crowning of Queen Victoria in England. He also went to the wedding of Eugenia de Montijo to Napoleon III. He was known for his grand lifestyle.
