Newton Tattrie (born July 12, 1931 – died July 19, 2013) was a famous Canadian professional wrestler. Many fans knew him by his ring name, Geeto Mongol (sometimes spelled Geto Mongol).

He started his wrestling career in the 1960s. He worked for Stu Hart's Stampede Wrestling in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Geeto Mongol wrestled all over the world. He competed in the United States, Canada, Africa, Japan, Singapore, and Puerto Rico. He also wrestled for the World Wide Wrestling Federation (WWWF).

Geeto Mongol teamed up with Josip Peruzovic as "The Mongols." They won the WWWF International Tag Team Championship twice. Later, Tattrie won the title again with Johnny DeFazio.

Geeto Mongol's Wrestling Journey

Starting Out in Wrestling

Newton Tattrie was born in Springhill, Nova Scotia, in 1931. He had a tough start in life. He ran away from home when he was only 12 years old. He lived on the streets of Toronto during World War II.

He was very interested in boxing. One day, he accidentally walked into a wrestling gym. He thought it was a boxing place! There, he met a wrestler named Dave "The Wildman" McKigney. Dave offered to train Newton in both boxing and wrestling. Another wrestler, Waldo Von Erich, helped Tattrie get into the World Wide Wrestling Federation (WWWF). For a while, he wrestled there as Tony Newbury. In 1963, he moved to Calgary, Alberta, Canada. He continued his training and worked for Stu Hart's Stampede Wrestling.

Becoming The Mongols

While working for Stu Hart in Stampede Wrestling, Tattrie met Josip Peruzovic. Peruzovic later became known as Nikolai Volkoff. Tattrie took Peruzovic under his wing and helped train him to be a professional wrestler. Peruzovic was 315 pounds and did not speak English at the time.

Tattrie became known as Geto Mongol, and Peruzovic became Bepo Mongol. Together, they were called "The Mongols." They had a unique look. They shaved their heads bald but left small "horns" of hair on top.

After forming "The Mongols," Tattrie returned to the WWWF in 1968. By 1970, Tattrie was very busy. From 1971 to 1972, he even helped run a wrestling area in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. This area worked closely with the WWWF. He built a home in Pittsburgh and kept wrestling. In 1972, Bepo Mongol left to become Nikolai Volkoff. Geto (Tattrie) then sold his wrestling business. It was also around this time that Newton Tattrie learned to read. He had spent years "bluffing it" before this.

Winning Championships

While wrestling in the WWWF, The Mongols won the WWWF International Tag Team Championship. They defeated Tony Marino and Victor Rivera on June 15, 1970. They held the championship for over a year. They lost the belts to Bruno Sammartino and Dominic DeNucci on June 18, 1971.

The Mongols won the title back in a rematch the next month. They held it until November 12, when they lost to Luke Graham and Tarzan Tyler. Geto Mongol won the championship one more time. He teamed with Johnny DeFazio to win the belts on December 18, 1972. They held the titles until the wrestling promotion changed owners, and the championship was no longer active.

Later Career and Retirement

Tattrie continued to train young wrestlers. One of his students was Bill Eadie. Eadie later became famous as The Masked Superstar and Demolition Ax. Eadie joined Tattrie to bring back "The Mongols" in Japan. Eadie was given the name Bolo Mongol. In 1975, they worked for a wrestling group called IWA. There, they won the IWA World Tag Team Title.

In 1982, Newton Tattrie found it hard to keep wrestling. He decided to retire from active competition. However, he was seen on TV in 1983 in World Class Championship Wrestling.

Newton Tattrie passed away in 2013 in Virginia Beach. He had lived there in his later years.
