George, Missouri facts for kids
George was once a small community in Franklin County, Missouri. Today, it's known as an "extinct town" or a ghost town, meaning it no longer has people living there or active buildings.
History
The town of George got its start when a post office was opened there in 1894. A post office was very important back then because it was how people sent and received letters and packages. The community was named after Stephen H. George, who was an early postmaster (the person in charge of the post office).
However, the post office didn't stay open for very long. It closed down in 1905, which meant the town of George slowly faded away and became a ghost town.
