George Brisbane Scott Douglas facts for kids
Sir George Brisbane Scott Douglas, 5th Baronet (1856–1935) was a Scottish poet and writer. He also held the title of Baronet, which is a special hereditary title in Britain, similar to a knight but passed down through families.
George Douglas was born on December 22, 1856, in Gibraltar. His mother, Doña Sanchez de Pina, was from Gibraltar. He managed a large family estate while also spending a lot of time on his writing and studies. He never married. When he passed away in 1935, his nephew, James Louis Fitzroy Scott Douglas, inherited his title. However, his nephew never lived at Springwood Park, which had been the family home for five generations, near Kelso in the Scottish Borders.
He went to school at Harrow and then studied at Trinity College in Cambridge. His first book was published in 1880. He sometimes used the name Sir George Douglas for his books. The main family home was Springwood House, located in Kelso, Scotland. Sir George Douglas died on June 22, 1935, when he was 78 years old.
