George De Cairos Rego (born in 1858, died in 1946) was an Australian composer. He wrote music that was easy to listen to, often called "light classical." He was also one of the first teachers at the famous Sydney Conservatorium of Music. George was born in Victoria, but he spent most of his life in New South Wales.

George also loved to write about music. He had his own regular columns in a newspaper called The Daily Telegraph. These columns were named 'Realm of Music' and 'World of music'.

A Musical Organizer

George was a very important person in the music world. He helped start the Musical Association of New South Wales. For many years, he was the secretary, helping to organize everything. He also worked with the Australian National Council of Music Associations.
