George Augustus was born on October 30, 1683, in Hanover, Germany. His father was George Louis, who would later become King George I of Great Britain. His mother was Sophia Dorothea of Celle. He was part of the House of Hanover.
Moving to Britain
In 1714, when George Augustus was 31 years old, his father became King George I of Great Britain. This meant George Augustus became the Prince of Wales. He moved to Great Britain with his family. He learned English and began to get used to British customs.

When his father, King George I, died in 1727, George Augustus became King George II. He was crowned at Westminster Abbey. He was 43 years old when he took the throne.
