George Newenham Wright (born around 1794, died 1877) was an Irish writer and a church leader. He was born in Dublin, Ireland. His father, John Thomas Wright, was a doctor.

George Wright studied at Trinity College Dublin. He earned his first degree in 1814 and a master's degree in 1817. He was chosen as a Scholar of the College in 1812, which is a special academic honor. In 1819, he married Charlotte Mulock.

Life and Work

George Wright worked in several churches in Ireland. Later, he moved to London and worked at a church called St Mary Woolnoth.

A Teacher and Author

Besides his church work, George Wright was also a teacher. By 1851, he was teaching classics (ancient Greek and Roman studies) in Windsor. He even had students living with him. Later, in 1863, he became the headmaster of Tewkesbury Grammar School.

From the 1820s to the 1840s, George Wright wrote many books. These books covered different topics. Some were about places, like travel guides. Others were schoolbooks on subjects like the Greek language, biographies, and philosophy. Many of his books about Ireland featured drawings by the artist George Petrie.

He passed away on March 24, 1877, in Bath, England.
