Georges Fork, Virginia facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Georges Fork is a small, quiet place in Dickenson County, Virginia, in the United States. It's known as an unincorporated community, which means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a town or city with its own local government. Instead, it's part of the larger county.

A Look at Georges Fork's Past

Georges Fork got its name from an early settler named George. He lived right where a creek flows into a larger river or stream, which is often called the "mouth of the creek." People started calling the area "Georges Fork" because of him.

This community once had its own post office. It opened in 1907, making it easier for people living there to send and receive mail. The post office served the community for many years before it closed down in 1950.
