Gerald Weil Nachman (born January 13, 1938 – died April 14, 2018) was an American journalist and author. He was known for his writing about entertainment, especially theater, movies, and comedy. Nachman spent most of his life in the San Francisco area.

Who Was Gerald Nachman?
Gerald Nachman was born in Oakland, California, on January 13, 1938. His father, Leonard Calvert Nachman, was a salesman. He also enjoyed acting in local theater groups. Gerald's mother was Isabel (Weil) Nachman.
Early Life and Education
Gerald went to Merritt College and earned a degree in 1958. After that, he studied at San Jose State University. He graduated in 1960 with a bachelor's degree. While still a student, he began his career in journalism. He started as a TV reviewer and humor writer for the San Jose Mercury newspaper.
A Career in Journalism
Nachman had a long and interesting career in writing. He worked for several major newspapers. He wrote about many different topics, from TV shows to plays.
Writing for Newspapers
From 1964 to 1966, Gerald was a feature writer for the New York Post. Feature writers write longer, more in-depth stories. Later, from 1972 to 1979, he worked for the New York Daily News. There, he wrote features and reviewed TV shows.
In between his time in New York, he was a writer and movie critic for the Oakland Tribune. He also became well-known for his humor columns. These columns, called "Double Take" and "The Single Life," were shared with many newspapers across the country. This is called syndication.
In 1979, he joined The Chronicle in San Francisco. He became a columnist and a theater critic. He reviewed plays, movies, cabaret shows, and comedy acts. He left the newspaper in 1993.
Radio and Beyond
Even after leaving the newspaper, Gerald Nachman stayed busy. He was a regular guest on a radio show called "Minds Over Matter." This show was on KALW radio. He continued to be active in the world of entertainment and writing.
