Geraldine Aron, born in 1951, is a talented Irish writer. She is known for creating plays. She was born in Galway, Ireland. Geraldine has lived in many different countries. These include Zambia, Zimbabwe, and South Africa. Today, she lives in London, England.
Her very first play was called Bar and Ger. It was performed in Cape Town, South Africa, in 1975. This play won awards and is still performed around the world!
One of Geraldine Aron's most famous plays is My Brilliant Divorce. It's a "one-hander," meaning only one actor performs it. The famous actress Dawn French starred in it in London. The play was shown at the Apollo Theatre in London's West End. It was even nominated for a big award in 2004. This award was the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Entertainment. Many of Geraldine's plays, twelve in total, have also been shown on TV or radio.
My Brilliant Divorce has been a huge success. It has been performed in 28 different countries! In Prague, it has been running for 20 years. This is a record-breaking run for the play. A French movie was also made from the play. It was called Brillantissime and came out in 2018.
Geraldine Aron has written many other plays. Some of these include Same Old Moon and A Galway Girl. Others are The Shrinking of Alby Chapman and Spider. Her plays On The Blue Train, Olive and Hilary, and The Stanley Parkers are also well-known.
Her work is recognized in important books. She is in the 1992 Bloomsbury Guide to Women's Literature. Her play My Brilliant Divorce is also in an American collection. This collection of one-person plays is called Singular Sensations.
