Gideon (TV series) facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Gideon was a fun animated TV show from the late 1970s and early 1980s. It was made in the United Kingdom. The show was all about a special duck named Gideon.

This simple cartoon focused on Gideon, a duck with a very long neck. This made him different from the other ducks. Sometimes, the other ducks would tease him because he looked unusual. But in the end, good things always happened for Gideon. The show taught us that being different can be a good thing.

How Gideon Began

The idea for Gideon first came from France. A writer named Benjamin Rabier created a series of storybooks in 1923. The French name for the character was Gédéon.

In the 1970s, French television made the storybooks into a cartoon series. Michel Ocelot directed and helped write this cartoon. Later, a British TV company called Yorkshire Television bought the show. They made an English version for viewers in the United Kingdom. Steve Haynes directed the English version. The music for the show was created by Alan Parker, who was a member of the band Blue Mink.

The Voices Behind the Fun

The famous comedian Tim Brooke-Taylor, from the group Goodie, narrated the entire series. He also did all the voices for every single character! He once said he had to do about 57 different voices. These voices brought many fun characters to life. Some of them included Winston the circus dog, Cornelia the tortoise, Stalker the poacher, and even flying rabbits.
