Giovanni Forti Natoli was a nobleman from Sicily. He was the son of Blasco Natoli Lanza and Domenica Giambruno Perna. Giovanni Natoli became a very important person in Sicily.
He started as a baron of S. Bartolomeo and Belice. A baron was a powerful landowner. On August 20, 1597, he bought a large area of land called the barony of Sperlinga. He bought it from Giovanni Ventimiglia for a lot of gold.
The king of Sicily, Philip II of Spain, gave Giovanni Natoli a special permission. This permission was called a "licence to populate and build." It meant he could bring people to live in Sperlinga and build new things there. This helped the area grow.
Later, in 1627, another king, Philip IV of Spain, made Giovanni Natoli the first Prince of Sperlinga. This was a very high honor.
Giovanni Natoli was married two times. His first wife was Maria Cottone Aragona. His second wife was Melchiora Orioles Moncada. With Melchiora, he had a son named Francesco Natoli.
Giovanni Natoli passed away on July 15, 1633.
