Girriyoowa (also known as Pullout Springs) is a small Aboriginal community. It is located about 110 kilometers (68 miles) west of Halls Creek. This area is in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. It is part of the Shire of Halls Creek.

Native Title Rights

The Girriyoowa community is located in an area where the Gooniyandi people have a native title claim. This means they have special rights to their traditional lands. These rights are recognized under Australian law.

How the Community is Run

The community of Girriyoowa is managed by a group called Marralgni (Granite Community) Indigenous Corporation. This group helps make decisions for the community.

The corporation was first started on May 2, 1994. It was known as Girriyoowa Aboriginal Corporation. Later, on May 15, 2009, its name was changed to Marralgni (Granite Community) Indigenous Corporation.

Education for Kids

Children living in Girriyoowa go to the Yiyili Community School. This school teaches students from kindergarten up to Year 10. It serves children from Yiyili and other nearby communities. These include Ganinyi, Goolgaradah, Kurinyjarn, and Rocky Springs.

In 2010, there were 72 students at the school. A bus picks up students daily from communities like Moongardie, which is 30 km away. The school also provides lunch for all its students. After Year 10, students often go to boarding schools. These schools are in larger towns like Darwin.

Community Planning

Girriyoowa does not have its own separate plan for how the community is set up. Instead, it is part of a larger plan called the Yiyili Layout Plan No.2. This plan also includes Ganinyi and Kurinyjarn.

This plan helps decide where things like houses and roads should go. The Girriyoowa community approved this plan on December 2, 2010. The Western Australian Planning Commission also approved it on September 29, 2011.
