Glória Menezes is a very famous Brazilian actress. Her full name is Nilcedes Soares de Magalhães, and she was born on October 19, 1934. She is known for her many roles in Brazilian TV shows, especially soap operas (called telenovelas), and movies.
Life and Career
Glória Menezes was born in Pelotas, a city in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Her unique real name, Nilcedes, was created by combining the names of her parents: José Nilo and Mercedes.
When she was six years old, Glória and her family moved to São Paulo. There, she studied acting at the University of São Paulo's School of Dramatic Arts. She even helped start a theater group called Jovens Independentes, which means "Independent Young People."
Glória's professional acting career began in 1959 on a TV channel called TV Tupi in São Paulo. Her first role was in a soap opera called Um Lugar ao Sol. In 1962, she acted in the movie O Pagador de Promessas. This film was very important because it was nominated for an Academy Award!
A year later, in 1963, Glória Menezes starred in Brazil's very first daily soap opera, 2-5499 Ocupado. She acted alongside Tarcísio Meira in this show. During the filming of this soap opera, Glória and Tarcísio started dating. They later got married in 1962 and became one of Brazil's most beloved and famous acting couples. They had three children together, including their son Tarcísio Filho, who also became an actor. Glória Menezes continued acting for many years, with her career lasting from 1959 to 2020.
